Happiest of Hours
Last night, I spent a lovely evening with some of the wonderful ladies from my bible study. We went to this spot in Pacific Beach that made me feel simultaneously like a grandma and extremely un-hip. I’ve never been into the whole bar scene, so when the mustachioed gentleman at the entrance threw his hand up upon my arrival, it took me a hot second to realize he was asking to see my ID and not waving hello. A man of few words, he stared very intently at my card and then back at me, and then back at my card and back at me for a good 10 seconds. What sort of face am I supposed to make in those situations? Smiling seems odd…I oscillated between a neutral expression and a smile…so I’m sure that didn’t look weird…
I’ve gotta say, guys, I’m not one for places that require a hand stamp to get in. And there I was last night, at one…and on a work night, no less! (Have I convinced you of how uncool I am yet?)
Anyway, we had a great time. The restaurant’s Wednesday night special was two-for-one appetizers, so we all just ordered a ton and split them. The tater tots were definitely a fave; smothered in nacho cheese sauce, topped with crumbled bacon, green onions and sour cream. Life changing. We got to sit up on the roof, so before the food came, we watched the sun set over the Pacific. It was pretty breathtaking. The view, combined with the warm breeze, reminiscent of summer nights, made for a perfect evening.
Nights like yesterday make me so thankful to have found such an amazing church home with such incredible women, who have become like sisters to me. Have a wonderful evening and thank you for reading!
