10 Not-So-Basic Wardrobe Staples

I know that the concept of, "10 Wardrobe Staples" is probably nothing groundbreaking to most of you. We've most likely seen someone's version of this at one point or another.

Instead of giving you information you already have, I thought I'd share some not-so-basic wardrobe staples with you. What I mean is, all of these items are things you probably already have in your closet in some form, but with a fun, unique feature that makes them just a little bit more interesting. Let's call them, "Elevated Wardrobe Basics."

1. Denim skirt

You can't go wrong with a classic denim skirt. I love that they are not only back in style, but in such a wide variety of styles, i.e. patchwork, pencil, button- down, embroidered. There's basically something to satisfy everyone!

2. Embroidered Leather Jacket

I personally believe that everyone needs a leather or faux leather jacket in their closet. I wear mine all the time. The embroidered details on this one make it look much more expensive and give this edgy piece a feminine touch.

3. Cropped Wide Leg Jeans

You guys know how I feel about cropped jeans. I love the way they make your legs appear longer and they work great with ankle boots. These ones have a very on-trend raw hem and subtle patchwork detailing on the bottom. I'm also seeing a lot more flare and wide leg fits these days. Are skinny jeans' days numbered?? I doubt it, but people are definitely beginning to branch out more.

4. Boyfriend Blazer

Every working girl needs a blazer. A typical black blazer is a must, but I also love the looser fit and soft heather grey color of this one. Makes it the perfect transitional piece.

5. Eyelet Button-Up Shirt

I wear button-ups all the time, so I'm always looking for shirts with a little something extra, so that my style doesn't seem too monotonous. The eyelet detailing and bell sleeves on this one keep things interesting, while still maintaining a crisp, classic look.

6. Slip-On White Sneakers

I recently did a post about how to dress down a dress. You can read it here. I think clean white sneakers are the perfect addition to make a dress appear casual. I love how the black stripe across the front of these makes them not look like a simple pair of Vans, but rather a more high-end sneaker.

7. Studded Ankle Boots

Ankle boots have been everywhere for the past several years. Most of us probably have at least one pair, but I doubt many of us have a pair that wraps around the ankle and has studs, like these! I love the juxtaposition of the way the studs toughen them up and the ankle strap softens them.

8. Pointed Toe Bow Flats

A classic pair of black flats is essential, and of course, you could always go simple and traditional, but why not take a walk on the wild side and up your shoe game with these?? I also think the bow makes them feel very reminiscent of a certain other much more expensive pair of shoes...

9. Striped Tee

No matter how much my style changes and evolves, I will never not love a striped tee and jeans look. In the past, I wore strictly black and white stripes. Nowadays, I think it's fun to change things up a bit. I'm currently loving red and white horizontal stripes and red and white vertical stripes.

10. Black T-Shirt Dress

Every woman needs an LBD; possibly even several, depending on how frequently you wear them. I love the drop waist on this one, making a standard t-shirt dress a little bit flirty and fun.

Would you wear any of these not-so-basic wardrobe staples? What's your favorite way to elevate a classic piece?

Hope you found this helpful and that you're having a great day. As always, thanks so much for stopping by.
